Ray Villafane who is famous for creating 3D pumpkin carvings has created some amazing pieces. He has been working in the art of sculpting for about 15 years. He uses various size knives for carving his scary three-dimensional portraits from regular pumpkins. He also has a tutorial on how to carve a pumpkin like one of his. The funny thing I found out about Ray is that he is actually allergic to pumpkin.
The Workerman making form + function + design. I found his work on Flickr this morning looking around for some ideas and motivation. What I found was his daily design of the periodic table. Each day he would take a different element and give the design his own interpretation of the element. I also found it amusing that he actually had to put this disclaimer - "I am starting out doing every element in the periodic table....please do not use them as actual reference for the elements as some of them may be a little more abstract than others."
If you get a chance check out his website as well. He has some other great works and he also makes wood handlebars as well as super clean minimalist style graphics. Did I also mention he makes t-shirts as well.
The Foals who had great success in their first album Antidotes is now continuing that success with their new album Total Life Forever. The front man Yannis Philippakis has regard the new albums sound to be more of settling in and more self-aware. They have tried to regress into a more native state and they have accomplished that with this album. This album is one that has staying power after repeated listens. It full of beautiful textures, guitar loops, and mixtures of ambient electronica but it still has that pop sound. It's quite a feat as well as a singer to be able to change the tone and sound of your voice throughout your album like Yannis has done. The Foals have definitely broaden their sound without sacrificing quality, every note and sounds is executed perfectly. This band has made an extinguishing leap forward. So have a listen to some of there tracks performed live with BBC below and leave a comment on what you think?
Interesting music video for this song. Not sure what the creature is but it's a great track and a neat video.
You're in the airport and your down to show off your suit wearing break dancing style. The only problem is you don't have a boom box to amplify your new mix-tape. What are you going to do? Well there is a solution now and it goes a little old school.
Mr. Simo created these custom built Boom Case ($250 and up) from old used vintage suitcases. They feature a 3.5mm jack for hooking up to your phone, iPod or whatever other music source you've got. It's got a built-in battery that can pump out over 7 hours of tunes on your 200watt Boom Case, and a built-in charger for juicing it up. The only question is just how you're going to get it through airport security without them wanting to give you a full-body pat down.
Here is a video of an Airboy Boom Case that Mr. Simo made.
A friend of mine on Facebook brought this video to my attention over the weekend. So I thought I would pass it along. Fallen is a video that was realized by Wolfram Kampffmeyer and Sascha Geddert. It's about a little meteor named Schorch who learns the biggest lesson of his life on his way down to earth. The video is only 3:50 minutes but they were able to invoke such emotion within such a small amount of time. It makes you take in the idea of being alive and enjoying your life in the moment because life is short.
Compositing by Sebastian Nozon. Music and sound design by David Christiansen.

Well fall is in the air and so are the sound waves of the NEW Playlist-19. This one has some highs and lows when it comes to the tempos of the tracks and the style. I'd like to give a shout out to Andre Allen Anjos tag name (RAC). This guy is on fire in my eyes. He is constantly reworking indie tracks and getting it right. His remix of The Temper Trap's "Sweet Disposition" is a great example of that. I also added a track called "Hammock" by Millionyoung. Now don't forget earlier this week. I put up a link to his site where you can download his first EP "The Sunndreamm" for FREE. Lastly, I added a known track by all "The District Sleeps Alone" by The Postal Service. Even after 7 years I still love hearing this song. On this Playlist though, I found a chilled out Dubstep version of this song that I thought was deserving of being shared with all of you. So press play and let the sounds begin.
If you want to check out any of the other Playlist then click on Archived Playlist in this post or on the right hand side of this blog.

The photography works of Ed Fella caught my attention this morning with his collection of Polaroid shots. There is something about Polaroid's that reminds me of my younger years. It could be because Polaroid's were popular during my childhood or it could be the vintage feel that they portray. Either way this collection by Ed is great. I could get lost in these photos for a minute. If you want to check out more of Ed's work then check out his site.
The Cape Schank House by Jackson Clements Burrows Architects, is located atop a high dune at Cape Schank Victoria. The goal was to take advantage of the sweeping views, that come along with a “high dune” and to play off the landscape. The upper level extends out towards the views appearing to emerge from the Ti-Tree, explaining the interesting telescope like shape that you’ll notice from the exterior. This home is contemporary yet minimalist and has an amazing view that gives it an open airy quality. Overall, the most unique quality of the home is the way it peeks out from it’s cove tucked slightly away in the landscape and peers out over it’s surroundings. This is a home I would definitely put myself in debt to own.
Millonyoung is the works of Michael Diaz a Florida resident who self-released his debut, "SunnDreamm EP" in 2009. Millionyoung uses soft tempo dance beats amongst crispy acoustic recordings and hazily hypnotic samples. Diaz who's vocals are hypnotic and soothing to the ears will have you transfixed in his music in no time. I would put his sound in the chillwave/dance category. His music reminds me of bands like New Order, Washed Out, and Toro y Moi. I'm surprised it took me this long to find his music. I found out about Millionyoung from the Nueva Forma Episode 9 Playlist with his song "Cynthia" which is on his new EP "Be So True" which was released on January 9th, 2010. After that I was hooked and had to have more.
Millonyoung who has been a very productive man. He has a bunch of music available, some for free, some for really cheap, and below I have added some tracks of his for your streaming pleasure. If you like what you hear then head on over to download "SunnDreamm EP" for FREE. It really is as sunny and dreamy as the title suggests. You can also buy his other EP “Be So True” from iTunes and if you check out his site you can also download the song “Feel The Same” for FREE as well.

I'm sure there are a lot of you out there that have a ton of electronic gadgets that you carry with you every day. I know I do and they are all disorganized in my book-bag. So I came across this neatly organized mat called the "Grid-It" by Cocoon. This is a threaded mat made of rubber-threaded bands running vertically and horizontally allowing you to keep your gadgets neatly organized inside your bag or office. They come in different sizes as well so your price range can be from $16-$41 dollars depending on the size. I thought I would share this organizer because it actually looks practical and who doesn't like to be organized?
So after many hours of enjoying the listening pleasures of Nueva Forma's podcast, I'm excited to share it with all of you. Nueva Forma got it right with their podcasts. They not only have great album covers but a great choice in music. For the past nine months they’ve been creating these wonderful mixes featuring artists from their own label and also guest artists. One of my favorite things about these podcast is the added voice commentary at the beginning, middle and end of the podcasts. It gives it an added feel to the whole mix.
Their current podcast Listening Pleasures Episode 09 hands down is a fantastic podcast this month. This podcast has some amazing tracks by Blackbird Blackbird, Tanlines, Millionyoung and many more… It has the right balance from start to finish. Nueva Forma even made four tracks available as free downloads. Click on the download links in the tracklisting to get your tunes courtesy of A Gap Between, The Bear & The Sea, and Miori on the Nueva Forma website. If you like what you hear they have many ways in which to subscribe so you will only be a click away from good sounds. So start your listening pleasures.
Matthew Billington is a poster designer from Vancouver, Canada. In his designs he likes using eye-catching, puzzling methodology of cutting and pasting in his poster designs. I couldn't find a whole lot of information on him but I was pulled into his works. I have yet to try the cut and paste of designing. So when I see something like Matthew's work. It gives me some inspiration to give it a shot and see what I can come up with. That is the great part about designing is that others works are great inspiration and motivation to continue the learning process as a designer. So today maybe find someone you get some inspiration from and leave a comment and let me know who has inspired you.
The Lake Travis Retreat was envisioned as a home for a growing family and a home to play host to friends and extended family. It was designed by Dick Clark Architecture in Lake Travis, Texas. This home was not only designed by the architects but also the family, including the children. Everyone took votes on what they wanted out of this home while keeping the same vision of a place where family and friends can spend time together.
The most gestural element of the house is a raised, copper clad pavilion with transparent walls facing south toward the neighborhood and north toward the courtyard and lake. The butterfly shape of the roof dramatically casts off rainwater through an over-sized scupper, an external reference to the series of seven water features found inside the walls of the retreat. Their are numerous other features of this design that makes this home a great place to have a family retreat.
