Tim Wan is the creator of the Predictions Calendar Series. He states, "It's a series that interprets the definition of fakery by tampering with true events; placing them outside their original context to mislead, trigger nostalgia, and remind people of past events". It was such a success that it was awarded membership to International l Society of Typographic Designers. Not bad for someone who just graduated.
I personally find these calendars to be a great example of good design from the color palette choices to the layout and typography used in the design of these calendars. To bad these are not for sale. If they were they would be hanging in my house right now.
Texas photographer Ignacio Torres has created some intriguing animated photography in his series called, Stellar. He began the project from a theory that humans are made of cosmic matter as a result of a stars death. Below is an explanation from Ignacio on his project:
I created imagery that showcased this cosmic birth through the use of dust and reflective confetti to create galaxies. The models organic bodily expressions as they are frozen in time between the particles suggest their celestial creation. In addition, space and time is heightened by the use of three-dimensional animated gifs. Their movement serves as a visual metaphor to the spatial link we share with stars as well as their separateness through time.
Carbon Design Group has come up with a new way in which to tackle the multitude of TV functions in their concept Carbon Toggle remote. The challenge was to take a complex array of devices and uses, and distill them down into one, flexible, multimode device. The core of the Toggle is a simple touchpad, much like you might find on a laptop. This capacitive surface is printed with images, characters, and icons. The different modes are revealed by the use of a simple, grid-patterned mask. When the base and mask are aligned, Toggle is off and its logo is visible. A simple shift up, down, left or right, exposes a new interface and activates the corresponding mode —Type, Move, Surf or Play. It's actually quite an innovative design and could have some serious functionality in today's market of remote controls. I will be keeping my eyes out for this product to hit the market.
Well this is interesting. Tamiya, a company who specializes in plastic and resin kits for modellers, recently released a set of print advertisements featuring conspiracies around Elvis Presley, Roswell, the Moon Landing, JFK's assassination and Marilyn Monroe's suicide. Tamiya Put It Together kits were setup to force users to see each individual conspiracy, with the step-by-step process of shedding a light on the falsehood or truth of each. I can't say that I'm a modeller enthusiast but I think the prints are pretty sweet.
o2 Architecture has teamed up with prefab developers Blue Sky Homes to construct a sustainable, modestly scaled residence to serve as a prototype for a prefabricated line of homes. This 1,000 sq. ft. home is located in the the Mojave Desert 4,000 above sea level which is just sitting on 6 columns. This home provides a modern yet stylish home that can be made to order, yet still be affordable to met your needs. You can watch the video below on the homes design and construction. I found a black and white clock with a minimal design and I want one. It's currently is just a concept but I could see this product becoming a reality. One because of the design and two because of the simplicity and three because people love clocks. Each figure in this clock set has a self-contained power supply and independent control, it can be fixed to any surface autonomously. Their is also a light sensor that will switch the clock to an invert mode: the figures are white in the dark time of the day and black at the daytime.
This is going to be a hot show, not because it's in Tampa but because it has some great talent heating up the dance floor. The Identity Festival is a one day festival packed full of great electronic music. The line up for the Tampa show is off the hook with acts like Kaskade, Pretty Lights, DJ Shadow, Steve Aoki, The Crystal Method and more... Tickets are still available for this festival if you have the time to take off work or school on a Wednesday. If you can make it out, I will see you there. The Table Drum Augmented Audio App allows iOS devices to turn that constant finger drumming into digitized drum sounds, in real time. The app works like a drum pad instead of the other apps out there where you have to tap the screen to trigger a sound. All you have to do now is tap away anywhere you like and the app uses the microphone to listen for the taps from your fingers. It can distinguish between 4 different sounds. So the sound of your finger tapping your desk at work could be the bass, while tapping on your coffee cup could be your high hats.

I've stumbled upon SR692 and his large collection of retro Swissair poster designs today. I'm not going to lie but their are some seriously good designs up in this collection. Most of these poster designs came from the 30's to the 80's, which are archived on the site.
What I like about this collection is the simplicity of each design. They utilize the generic airplane icon, a headline and the Swissair logo making for a minimally designed style. Broken Time Machines, which is Alex Varanese musical side project has just released the first single "The Ghost of Mission Street". It's a six-minute exploration of spacey, dreamy pop melodies with a glitch of electro and layered percussion. Not only does this track have a unique but day dreaming quality, it's also accompanied by a surreal and believable location with less-than believable details, such as the deconstructing jetliner seen through a concrete atrium.
I think this is a great combination of art and music brought into this project and I look forward to hearing more tracks by Broken Time Machines. If you want to check out more of Alex's work I highly suggest it. Don't forget to download your copy of The Ghost of Mission Street.
FP7 is an ad agency that was looking for some promotional posters for an event as well as to hand out to the clients. The idea behind these posters was to base the posters on key insights about the agency world, that would make someone think. In the terms of design though, Ryan Atkinson and Steve De Lange went with the classic but edgy look using typography and the grid system to generate these minimal promotional posters. The agency wanted to have posters that the clients or future employee would want to keep. If I worked for this company I would definitely want a couple of these posters.
