Google has in the past used a multi-prong approach to smart TV, with the Chromecast serving as nothing more than a box accepting streams from other devices, and some sets launching with Android TV built-in. That ends with the Chromecast with Google TV ($50). While it resembles past Chromecast devices, it runs new software dubbed Google TV that aims to consolidate all the various streaming services into a single unified interface with over 30 supported apps. It supports 4K HDR streaming, Google Assistant voice commands and ships with a new nice-looking remote.
The current situation dictates that the majority of us stay home. While that makes ideal conditions for you know - binge-watching, that also means you might not have anyone to binge with. Enter Netflix Party. This Chrome extension lets you create private "parties", complete with chat rooms, that allow you to invite friends to enjoy Netflix shows and movies together over the Internet in real-time. Not as fun as meeting up in real life, but certainly better than getting sick risking a trip to make that happen. It only works with Chrome browser and Extension installed.
If you're looking for other streaming sites/extensions like Netflix Party see below:

Google has just combined its Nest and Home divisions, creating Google Nest that encompasses all the company's smart home efforts. It does makes sense that their first new product would be a combination of both Google and Nest. The Google Nest Home Max Smart Display ($229) combines elements of the Google Home Max speaker, Google Home Hub display, and Nest Camera into a single package. It has a 10" HD display, a 6.5-megapixel camera, stereo speakers with a dedicated sub-woofer, and Google Assistant built in. Thus it can act as a controller for other smart devices in the house, a video chat station, a speaker, and if you want, a mini TV. Shipping later this summer 2019. Check out more info on Google.

Gone are the days of buying a new gaming console every few years. With Google's Stadia platform, the data center is your console. It provides near-instant streaming of games at 60 frames-per-second in up to 4K HDR quality across laptops, desktops, phones, tablets, and TVs with a minimum of 25mbps connections. While it works with existing controllers, a special Stadia controller will offer a direct WiFi connection to the cloud for easier screen-to-screen transitions, a dedicated streaming button. Just one of the many ways the service will tie into YouTube and give a dedicated Google Assistant button with special help options specifically for Stadia games. Arriving later this year, with further details, including pricing, expected this summer.

The Google Home Hub ($149) which is powered by Google Assistant with its smallish countertop appliance has a 7-inch display with a speaker as its base. Its speaker sound is to be on par with the Google Home. It performs the usual tasks, like setting timers and answering general questions, can stream media from YouTube, Spotify, and Pandora, amongst others, and is a perfect digital frame for Google Photos with its new ambient light technology. It also gives you an overview of any compatible smart devices you have in your home. Perhaps most impressive? It lacks a camera, so there's no worry of it spying on you, and a Mute button in the back completely shuts off the mics, further ensuring your privacy. If you buy a Google Home Hub you also get 6 months free of Youtube Premium and Youtube Music.

I'm sure that we all have photo's laying around in a box or a photo album sitting on a shelf somewhere. Instead of buying a scanner to digitize them, use the highly capable camera in your phone and the PhotoScan app from Google. It uses specialized algorithms to detect edges, correct perspective, rotate as needed, and stitch multiple exposures together to get rid of glare. It also integrates seamlessly with Google Photos, and as with nearly all software from Mountain View, it's completely free. So go get your scan on and try it today!

Designed to work with the Pixel and many other upcoming compatible phones, the Google Daydream View VR Headset is Google's first attempt on virtual reality. Unlike the other competing headsets made from hard plastic, the View is primarily made from a lightweight, breathable fabric that keeps you comfortable. It comes with a simple controller, and will be available in three colors: snow, slate, and crimson.

I'm sure this will be in my home. The convenience of always-on voice controls meets the power of the world's biggest search engine in Google Home. Like Amazon's Alexa, the Google Assistant lets you ask questions, set times, and control internet devices using your natural language. It also supports Google Cast, meaning you can play songs on any Cast-enabled speaker (including the Home itself), link them together for whole-home audio, and even pick out and start watching TV shows using nothing but your voice. Interchangeable bases let you match the device to your decor, and since developers are getting a look at it months before its official debut, you can count on it having a few surprise features when it launches later this year.

February 10th is known as Safer Internet Day. In that being said Google is giving an extra 2GB of Google Drive storage to anyone who completes this security checkup by February 17th.
This checkup makes sure your account recovery information is current, asks you to review recent sign-in activity, and lets you see which apps and devices can access your account. (Which is good practice anyways). It's worth it since Google will gift you with extra storage.
The company says it’ll give qualifying Google Drive accounts the boost on February 28 and you’ll get an email confirming the change.
UPDATE: Google Apps for Work and Google Apps for Education users are not eligible for the bonus storage but should still consider taking the Security Checkup.

Google Offering 2GB of Extra Drive Storage to Complete A Security Checkup
As you may have surmised, we have arrived at Part Three of our three part bike innovation series. Part One was focused on more of a futuristic approach to what bikes will eventually become and have the capability of becoming, while Part Two is more of an urban approach of what genius ideas can do to make your bike extra smart as well as theft proof. In Part Three, we will see some bike hacks to give you that new fangled feature or the "sexed up" look, without having to shell out for an all new ride.
Easily the coolest piece of kit I've seen, is the Helios Smart Handlebar. Coming in many styles, this handlebar comes with front and rear LEDs along with turn signals. Yes, I know, we've all seen indicator lighting blah, blah, blah... Yeah, you are way wrong! What sets the Helios apart, is the built in Bluetooth and GPS. Basic functionality lets you do the obvious stuff you would expect; tracking where you are, where you've been and how far in between. Get excited because here is where it gets good. Using the GPS and the rear facing LEDs, the Helios gives you real time telemetry. Set your destination in the app and follow the lights to get to where you need to go, while using the pulsing color feature (to indicate speed) at which you are traveling. Better yet, should the criminal element make off with your ride, the Helios can send you a text to your bike (SMS) when you want to retrieve location coordinates. You'll then receive a text back containing a Google Maps link to its current location. Shwing! For added flair, you can turn the lights on or off from your phone when you approach or when you walk away. Yay safety! $279 isnt the cheapest, but this is a serious product for serious riders.
Named for its T-shaped appearance. The Hammerhead is another navigation LED set up, but with more of a social angle. Much like the Helios, the Hammerhead uses LEDs to give it the turn-by-turn directions, but steps it up a bit to let you know when road hazards show up in the mix. As for the social angle, it syncs to the popular cycling app Strava, so you can send routes to friends, and of course, compete for bragging rights... you show off! For the price ($85), this is definitely a must have item, which you can preorder here.
As you no doubt remember, back in May, my good friend Damion Schweizer featured The Skylock...you did read it, right? For those of you who are new...or just slacking off... go here to read about it's app based key less entry and accelerator based notification system. So when some douchebag is fondling your goodies or when you've taken a spill, it gives you the option to call for help to friends, family or to the authorities. Way cool!
Now that the douchebags are no longer diddling your diddles and you know where you're going, what you need next is to keep those wheels spinning with the Patchnride. Small enough to fit in your pocket, this device can be used with any tube tire to permanently patch a hole. You don't even need to take the wheel off, although you will obviously need a pump to refill the air back in the tire. Head over here to check it out.
Of course with safety being of the utmost importance to every cyclist, you cant forget your helmet. The LifeBEAM Helmet will not only keep your brain in tip top shape, but it will track your heart rate, calories burned and distance traveled. Big bonus, no need to worry about any extra devices, straps or any unnecessary shenanigans. It can function in conjunction with almost all apps and devices. Head on over to LifeBEAM to check out this and their other products such as a hat and visor with the same capabilities as the helmet.
Now that I have thoroughly met all of your future bike tech needs, the test will be on Monday. So study up! Haha! I'm just joshing you. Questions, concerns or ideas are welcome in the comments section, and dont forget..."Like" early, "Like" often.

How would you like to customize and build your own phone? Google recently announced the Project Ara MDK (Modular Developer Kit), which is expected to launch in January 2015. The device will be called the "Gray Phone". "It’s called the Gray Phone because it’s meant to be drab gray to get people to customize it," It's scheduled to go on sale in January 2015 for around $50.
Google is looking to shake up the smartphone industry with Project Ara, the idea behind the project is that you will not need to buy a new device when you want the latest hardware inside your smartphone.
Instead you swaps components on the modular device, and this allows people to get the latest components they want to suit their phone needs. Would you get one of these?

For those of us that use multiple machines and devices this application is a godsend. PushBullet, the app for Android allows you to quickly transfer links, pictures, and notes between your smart devices, tablets and desktop Chrome Browsers. It is one of those insanely useful tools that is what FREE!
The PushBullet team introduced full notification mirroring, a feature that syncs all of your phone and tablet notifications to Chrome on PC. Viewable in Chrome’s notification tray (the bell-shaped icon in the system tray on Windows and the menu bar on Mac), they aren't actionable – you can’t respond to a text from desktop, for example – but they can be dismissed. Check out the video below to see how it works.

Google has joined with Samsung to produce the Galaxy Nexus (TBA). This new phone will be the first to run the whole redesigned Andriod 4.0 or a.k.a Ice Cream Sandwich. Why they named it that I have no idea but it was bad naming. Yeah, what's your phone running? It's running "Ice Cream Sandwich". Really Google? I'm going to have to give you an F for your failure in naming the new Andriod 4.0.
Now let's talk about some of the features on this new phone. It will be sporting a 4.65 inch; 720p high-definition sAMOLED curved Contour Display, LG LTE or HSPA+data, a 1.2GHz dual core processor, NFC technology for instant sharing of content and Google Wallet support. It also has Face Unlock a feature that gives you access to your phone using nothing but your mug, and a 5 megapixel rear camera with a LED flash boasting a single-motion panorama capability and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing cam, and 1080p video recording.
I think I found the phone that will be replacing my Google Nexus One?

Gumby and the gang have arrived today on the Google home page. This interactive doodle takes five bouncing clay balls which quickly take the shape of Gumby and the gang. Gumby was a hit animated television series that aired back in the 50's. Even though it was aired in the 50's it has been a classic for most that were born in the 80s and part of the 90's.
The doodle is a tribute to the creator Arthur "Art" Clokey, who was known for popularizing stop motion clay animation. His character Gumby first appeared in the 1953 short film Gumbasia, and became a hit on NBC all the way through the early 60's. The show apparently stopped in 1967 due to some issue. But it came back to life in the 80's on Fox, with reruns on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network in the 90's. The series has been off the air since 2001.
So in celebration of Arthur Clokey's would be 90th birthday, let's give thanks to the man who made a green piece of clay into a classic.

Google last week quietly joined the travel category with the launch of Google Flight Search, a web-based tool that lets you find and book flights with ease. The best part of this new tool is the minimal design of the site. This user friendly version is great because it provides all the info you need without all the clutter. Everything on the site is easy to navigate while still being clean in the design. I would tell you how the site works but I think the video below does a better job. So if you're looking to book a flight soon give Google Flight Search a try.
