Samsung announced the launch of its new Samsung ATIV Q tablet that runs both Windows 8 and Android 4.2.2. The 13.3" panel features a 3200 x 1800 resolution (276 PPI). Impressive! Android runs in a VM on top of Windows 8. Networking, storage and CPUs are all virtualized resources. There's even a dedicated key on the keyboard to switch between OS's. The Samsung ATIV Q is powered by a Intel Haswell Core i5 processor, and features include 4GB of DDR3L, a 128GB solid state disk (SSD) and connections for USB 3.0, USB 2.0 and HDMI outputs are provided as well as 720p HD video and lastly a microSD card slot for expansion. Samsung says it'll get up to 9 hours of battery life. No available date for release or a price tag. So the question would be: would this be something that you would want to give you the experience of working on a laptop, but also turning it into a portable Android tablet?
We children of the 90's remember pogs, troll dolls and pump-up shoes and more... So does Internet Explorer and Microsoft wanted to remind you of that with a new campain titled "The Browser You Loved to Hate". It focuses on children who grew up in the 1990's and what it had to offer back then. Check out the video below:

It seems the iPhone gets another sweet music app that the Android lacks, although I'm hoping Swedish Propellerhead (the makers of Reason) will make it for the Android as well. Figure is not your run of the mill beat grid style music app. This app is not only eye popping but it has controls that will make it easy for anyone to make music in minutes. They even have a thorough overview on their site on how to operate Figure and for a .99 cent app. You can't beat this (pun intended).

“I think we as an industry haven’t been that great about inviting people in who don’t have deep dreams about becoming big stars or understanding everything about music production, it’s time for that: I think everyone should be invited to be part of this. Figure is a small step towards that.” – says chief executive Ernst Nathorst Böös.

Do you think the world of DJ'ing will be using multi-touch surfaces in the future? In this video the user is demoing a touch screen called the Token. It was designed by Yöyen Munchausen. It's a large multi-touch screen interfaced aimed at performance. I wasn't able to find pricing on one of these bad boys, but I sure do want one.
The software being used is called the Emulator ($149), it's a DJ Software designed to work with tablet PCs. It's basically a multi-touch MIDI controller (for Windows 7). They also just released a new version 1.5 that now supports Native Instruments and Traktor 2 Pro. They are still working on coming out with a Mac version and also to support other DJ software's like Virtual DJ and more. They tried to make Emulator more intuitive and easy to use so DJ’s can begin playing on a touch screen interface immediately. Whether they use a tablet PC, touch screen monitor or their holographic looking transparent touch surface. This software will turn a few finger swipes into a new style of lights and sounds. Do you want to buy one now?
Emulator + Token = Future of DJ'ing
On Iso50 this morning Tycho released a video of raw footage for his new Tycho Live Set. The song that is playing in the video is from his up and coming fourth album. To catch this new live set you'll be able to see it at his next show in San Francisco on April 7th.
The new visual design for his live sets are being generated on the fly with VDMX effecting / compositing video on a Macbook Pro. Everything is being triggered / synced by another machine via MIDI over IP running Reaper which is handling all the audio duties. He stripped down the entire live set — audio and video — and started from scratch. With the new album pretty much wrapped up he decided to rework the visuals to go with all the new material and to have everything work better with the new live band.
From the article I read it looks like Tycho is looking to finish up and release the new album in the summer of 2011. It seems far away at this point but it will slowly creep up quickly and we'll be able to enjoy some new Tycho music. If you've never seen Tycho's Live Set. I have added some video's from when I saw him in San Fransciso at the FITC event last year.

A New Visual Direction for Tycho
It has been some time since I have done anything related to web design. So let me get started then and give you some different image gallery options to use on your website. jQuery image galleries and sliders are very common on adding to your portfolio sites and are also useful for any other type of site for displaying images and photos. They also provide a better user experience and make viewing images easier and more stylish to your website.
So being in the spirit of the almighty Monday. I have found a couple of JQuery image sliders and galleries plugins that can give your galleries a much needed stylish look to go with that stylish website.
Supersized is a full-screen slideshow jQuery plugin. It supports images preloaded with image cycling with transitioning effect.
This image slider was initially conceived to create 3D transitions between slides, turned out to be a convenient and multifunction solution that can be applied in a range of website building areas, from content slider to feature slider and image & banner rotators.
Galleria is a javascript image gallery written in jQuery. It loads the images one by one from an unordered list and displays thumbnails when each image is loaded.
The jQuery Cycle Plugin is a slideshow plugin that supports many different types of transition effects.
Piecemaker is an open source 3D Flash image rotator gallery. I actually think this one is pretty neat. Check out the demo.

If you like harps then check out this bad boy. This will blow your mind it's the Eigenharp Alpha which roughly cost $4,600 to 5,800 dollars. The Eigenharp Alpha is a mixture between a woodwind and keyboard, offering up an unorthodox musical control paradigm that includes a breath pipe, 120 keys, 12 percussion keys, two strip controllers, and multiple pedal inputs, all of which our ran into a Mac to produce a multitude of sounds. Just check out the videos below and see what I'm talking about.

In being that I'm an Android Phone user I'm getting excited to know that soon my Google Nexus One will have Flash capabilities. I will soon be able to watch and see different content on my browser that for so long has been denied. This update will make it so that users of Android will now be able to listen to my Playlists on the go from their phone browser. (self promotion anyone).
The update to Android 2.2 is to be released at Google I/O starting May 19. From the looks of the video in this post. It seems that the update will also have an updated launcher, Android tutorial, and global search box when the OS is revealed. So without a further a do. Check out the video below made by Ryan Stewart so you can see the wonders of Flash 10.1 playing on a Nexus One.

Adobe Creative Suite 5 is a collection of graphic design, video editing, and web development applications made by Adobe Systems. Adobe CS5 upgrade has arrived and though its previous version was released a year and a half ago many of us may have a feeling that they have upgraded only the other day. But the fact is that release cycle is every 18 months and now it is the right time for the new product version to come. The only web/design/development software collection that you would want to own Adobe Creative Suite 5 ($1700-$2600). It's available in five different sets, the new software includes the likes of Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, InDesign CS5, Acrobat 9 Pro, Flash Catalyst CS5, Flash Professional CS5, Flash Builder 4, Dreamweaver CS5, Fireworks CS5, Contribute CS5, Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, After Effects CS5, Encore CS5, Soundbooth CS5, and a few others. Standout new features include Truer Edge technology for better masking, native 64-bit support (Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects only), and the crazy-insane Content-Aware Fill feature.

Just had lunch with a friend and we were talking about comics. That's right comics cause well let's face it there awesome. He started talking to me about a program that would allow you to read comics on your iphone. So I thought why not let others know about this sweet app.
Panelfly which is a free app (App Store Link) let’s you purchase, read, and download your comics right from your iPhone or iPod touch. It has some of the biggest names in comics including Marvel and they have hundreds of titles to pick from. Panelfy’s has a well-designed interface which makes reading each issue as easy as possible. Now if you’re thinking that the iPhone or iPod touch is just to small then no worries. Panelfly will be available on the iPad in March of 2010 to give you a bigger experience.
Side note: Tycho Song "The Daydream" playing in the background.

"In computer graphics and photography, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI) is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of exposures (the range of values between light and dark areas) than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDR is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows." - From Wikipedia.
If applied carefully, High Dynamic Range-technique (HDR) can create incredibly beautiful pictures which blur our sense of the difference between reality and illusion. HDR (High Dynamic Range) Photography is a technique that is becoming very popular at the moment, an HDR photo is created using software such as Photoshop or Photomatix and produces images with more detail in the highlights and shadows.

The people at the University of California, San Diego are looking to find out how babies develop and it's importants of understanding how the human brain works. So to do that they built a creepy robotic baby. In cooperation with Japanese robotics firm Kokoro Co., Ltd., the team constructed this rather complicated machine that is meant to mimic the actions of a one-year-old human child. I still can't figure out why they gave it a baby face but they forgot to give it body skin.
The robot, named Diego-san, has over 60 moving parts in its body. Its five-fingered hands are able to grasp objects, and the robot can even stand up from a sitting (in a chair) position. The head contains more than 20 moving parts that allow Diego-san to create facial expressions. The head also contains high-res cameras in the eyes, a speaker in the mouth, and accelerometers in the ears that detect the robot’s movement and position.
Diego-san is also learning while he is being taught which I think is pretty cool for a robot to do but on the other hand if he got mad. That would not be good. It could turn into a really disturbing Chucky movie.

Graphic and image editors can help you create beautiful graphics and give your digital images amazing effects, but they can be expensive. So I can understand that some people just don't want to buy an expensive program just to make a couple of alterations. So I have decided to provide you with some Free Graphic and Image Editors that can fit your needs. These programs can be used by graphic designers, photographers, animators, and artists. Some have basic functionality, for the amateur or learner, others are very powerful and professional, suitable for the professional.
Project Dogwaffle offers both freeware and commercial versions, the freeware version is fully functional, lacking only the advanced layer and scripting tools of the full version. Project Dogwaffle (current version 1.2) is based on its commercial big brother, Project Dogwaffle 2.0. It’s a lighter, yet powerful tool for graphic designers and animators. Its features include realistic paint effects, a frame-based animation tool, the standard paint tools common to most modern bitmap paint programs, an alpha channel for transparency effects and support for plugins.
Pixen is an innovative graphics editor for the Mac. It’s designed from top to bottom for pixel artists—people who make low-resolution raster art like the sprites you see in old video games. But it’s great for artists of all arenas: Pixen is like a very powerful MSPaint or a simpler, more agile Photoshop. And best of all, it’s Free!
Inkscape is an open-source vector graphics editor just as powerful (perhaps better?) to Adobe Illustrator and Corel Draw. What sets Inkscape apart is its use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an open XML-based W3C standard, as the native format.
Inkscape does not have all the features of the leading vector editors, the latest versions provide for a large portion of basic vector graphics editing capabilities. It is not unknown for Inkscape to be used on different projects, it can be successfully used to create web graphics, technical diagrams, icons, creative art, logos and maps. It can also be used on Windows and Mac OS.
PhotoFiltre is a great freeware bitmap graphics editor program. I have been using this one personally for my photography and giving it that vintage look. This program has a lot of different features. One that I like the most is the quick contrast/hue and saturation buttons because you can check out the effects and immediately and easily correct the image if you’re not satisfied with its quality.
Paint.NET is a free image and photo editor, it features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. An active and growing online community provides friendly help, tutorials, and plugins.
It was originally intended as a free replacement for Microsoft Paint, it has grown into a powerful yet simple image and photo editor tool, not quite as powerful as Photoshop or Gimp, but a damn good replacement. It is trying to be simple for beginners and powerful for professionals.
Pixia is a freeware bitmap graphics editor program originally developed for the Japanese Manga but has become very popular with all graphic designers.
This Japanese application, is also available in English, French, Italian, Spanish, Hungarian, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Polish, Korean and German. The program supports multiple layers, transparency effects, standard file formats and a number of RGB file formats including .PSD. The main file extension used by this program is .PXA.
