Mum is an experimental Icelandic musical group whose music is characterized by soft vocals, electronic glitch beats and effects, and a variety of traditional and unconventional instruments. This band has been a favorite of mine for a long time. Mum's songs are strange, beautiful and saturated with an unspecific melancholy. Their sounds can definitely soothe and excite your inner being. Mum has been an inspiration for many people including myself who enjoy the creativity of finding new ways to portray our sounds of music.
On that note, Mum will be releasing its fifth album "Sing Along to Songs You Don't Know". It is set to be released on August 24, 2009. In the meantime while we wait patiently for the new album. Let's listen to the sounds of old and the inspiring sounds of previous Mum CD's.
As you all may know Twitter is a social site in which you just update your status on a constant bases. So when people come across your Twitter page you want it to look cool. Right? So in the process of making my Twitter page personal I came across this site. Twitterbackgrounds.com a premier site for Twitter backgrounds.
Twitterbackgrounds.com is a bunch of guys who love twitter just like you, and their working hard to build the best Twitter background site around. They have 58 pages of different Twitter backgrounds for FREE. They also have a personalized background where you can upload up to 4 pictures and you have a choice of 8 different backgrounds. They have a custom choose as well but that will run you about $79 bucks to have one made.
I have personally used this site and found it super easy to work through. It has you log into Twitter from their site to upload your new background. It even tweets that you used their site: "pdragon65Just got a personalized twitter background at http://www.TwitterBackgroun...less than 10 seconds agofrom web".
So go and get yourself a new look for your Twitter page.
Dave Bazan fronts the enigmatic rock band Pedro the Lion, with his emotionally charged narratives, and mournful voice. Pedro the Lion first started off back in 1995 and they released their first full-length record, the intimate, charming “It’s Hard to Find a Friend.” back in 1998. I found this band back in 2003 and have been enjoying their sounds ever since. Although in 2006 Pedro the lion parted ways and Dave Bazan continued making music under his own name and he recently signed to Seattle-based record label Barsuk Records. He’s currently working on a new full-length album to be released in 2009.
Headphones, a project led by David Bazan, formed and released one album shortly before the dissolution of his primary creative outlet, Pedro the Lion. The band's sound is marked by the use of synthesizers and live drums and percussion, sometimes drawing comparisons to other indie rock electronic groups such as The Postal Service. If you want to check out the sounds of headphones check them out on Myspace.
Whether your going to design a blog, website or portfolio website. Choosing your colors become an important factor in your design. Color plays a major role in how the design is perceived by the audience. There are plenty of tools out there made especially for this, but like anything else some are better than others. Here are 10 color tools that I think are exceptionally useful.
Kuler Kuler is a community driven web app that lets your browse color palettes created by others. You can also create your own by using the color wheel, harmony rules, and color sliders.
Colorotate As well as being a useful way to choose colors, ColoRotate looks cool and is actually fun to use. Instead of using two dimensional viewers, it presents color palettes to you in 3d and in real time.
Color Scheme Designer Color Scheme Designer has been around for a while, but was just recently updated with a brand new interface and a new color scheme generating engine.
Color Blender Color Blender let’s you select a preferred color and then it generates a six color blend based on that color. From there you can tweak each individual color.
Do you know any other useful tools for choosing your design colors. If you do leave a comment.
KOMPAKT brings this new edition of our beloved POP AMBIENT series to the world. It was released as of Feburary 2009. I however didn't get my hands on it till about a month ago. The people at Kompakt, have most definitely delivered in the compliation. Pop Ambient 2009, the ninth installment in the series, marks a shift in aesthetics from previous volumes, moving away from deeply textured synth washes in favor of a slightly darker and more organic sonic palette.
Among the new recruits of Kompakt, everybody's favorite ambient-noise-postrock peripatetic, Tim Hecker, checks in briefly with a glacial episode of abrasive bit crushed post-Kosmische; "Shosts in Silver" lets fragments of piano recital drift into soft squalls, slowly swelling into waves breaking over scarred terrain. Debutantes, The Fun Years, inject new flavours with "I Am Speaking Through Barbara," making the most of the recursion of a gruzzy post-rock guitar figure, sweeping it back and forth, ramping and mussing it up with distortion and delay, fragments of voice and captured audio-detritus. A somewhat redundant addition, though, is Type-ist, Sylvain Chauveau, who contributes two pieces already aired on his Nuage full-length - "Fly Like a Horse" and "Nuage III" being equal parts ho-hum classical chamberism and humdrum laptop-folk pensiveness. (igloomag.com, 2009).

While not exactly to scale, This is a pretty interesting concept idea of the evolution of cellphones via Russian Matryoshka dolls. It's a concept toy by designer Kyle Bean.
This is one of the best representation of a blast from the past. You can't get more modern and retro in the same breath as this. This tape (see below) is an MP3 player that follows the 45/60/90 minutes norm, holding 10/15/20 select songs in digital format. Who doesn't love the Tape. Right?
There are a couple of things regarding this player that really stands out. Like for example, if you want to forward or rewind a song, you need to manually do it by rotating the spools with your finger or pencil. To play just slide the Play Button. Charging it depends how good are you at …you guessed it…rotating the spools! Rotating the second hole of the tape charges the kinetic battery. An LED light indicates the power status: Green-full charge; Amber- Medium Charge; Red- will die out any moment.
A Logo is a graphical element that, together with its logotype (a uniquely set and arranged typeface) form a trademark or commercial brand. Typically, a logo’s design is for immediate recognition. The logo is one aspect of a company’s commercial brand, or economic or academic entity, and its shapes, colors, fonts, and images usually are different from others in a similar market. Logos are also used to identify organizations and other non-commercial entities.
Here are some logo designs that are creative and original and can give you some inspiration in your design of a company logo.
